A burning smell means switch off

If you smell burning or see scorch marks on an outlet or panel, switch off the breaker for that circuit if it's safe to do so, and call an electrician straight away.

How an electrical repair usually runs

  1. Tell us what's happening and when. Photos of the panel help.

  2. The electrician tests the circuits to trace the fault.

  3. You get a price for the repair before any work starts.

  4. The fault is fixed: a loose connection, a failed breaker or damaged wiring.

  5. Circuits are tested and the electrician explains what was done.
